poetry as pedagogy, my Life After Teaching

The original name for this blog by me, Sharon Marshall, was Pedagogy as Poetry, the idea being that teaching was kind of like writing a poem. I used to be an Associate Professor and Coordinator of First-Year Writing in the Institute, now Department, for Core Studies at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. I’m still involved in teaching through the Institute of Writing and Thinking at Bard College, but now I’m unofficially renaming the blog “poetry as pedagogy” since writing, especially poems, is teaching me how to live now that I’ve left the classroom, and lost my son, who died unexpectedly last year. Writing, gardening, and taking pictures are what sustain me, and what you will find here if you are interested.
